We drove up Saturday afternoon. I rented from National Car Rental on 12th Street & University. It was a relatively quick experience although a little mroe hurried than I like. The guy who gave me the car didn't want to do the inspection walk around the car with me. When I said "I should check the car." He acted like I said "Did you dip your dick in my soup?" and gestured like "You want to look around the car? Fine. You go right ahead you idiot." I did and the car was fine. I got an SUV because we usually accumulate a mountain of junk on these trips and in the past we had to bring tons of Ace related stuff (cribs, strollers, etc) with us. Packing the car I realized I could have gotten away with a smaller car. But as it turned out I was given the SUV size UP from the one I asked for. What once would have ben an awesome upgrade turned out to be a drawback when it cost me $60 to fill the fucking tank. Anyway the trip went well. For the first time we actually bought sandwiches in the city and that allowed us to not have to stop at some shitty McD's on the way so we made great time. We did stop near the Massachucetts border to stretch at a rest stop. It just so happened that the Boy Scouts were holding a fund raiser there by givig away hot dogs & coffee and other junk. These kids were so nice I actually got a hot dog and coffee even though that combination is not the most delicious. The rest of the drive was relatively mellow and we got to the beach house before sunset. That gave us plenty of time to walk on the beach with Ace and for him to begin what I assume will be daily requests for me to find him crabs in the rocks. Since I am such an amazing crab finder I quickly found 2 crabs and that seems to make him happy. Man, I tell you, NO ONE turns iover rocks and looks for moevment like me. NO ONE!
One crazy thing that we did see on the drive up to the beach was a car on fire. I forget where exactly we were in Conneticuit but the traffic slowed down to a pretty slow crawl. I hadn't even really started to complain when I noticed there was a slihght bit of smoke on the horizon. I had no idea if it was cauing the slow down or what. As we got closer to the smoke it started intensifying with flames shooting up in it.  Then all the traffic started to merge into our lane and a highway patrol guy showed up and zoomed by. Within 2 minutes we we crawling upto a totally insane sight. There was a woman and 3 children standing by the road. Leading from them was a trail of their possessions that they'd managed to get out of the trunnk of their car. There was literally stuff all the way to the trunk. Or what used to be the trunk. The car was completely engulfed in flames. Not a thing left to be see inside. Just the frame of the car burning like there was no tomorrow. It looked like something out of Iraq. The woman whose car it was had collapsed by the side of the road and was obviously sobbing. It was a real downer. The only upside was that we didn't really gfet tarpped behind it for very long and once we were past it we could totally fly because there was no one on the road.
Back to the beach. Today Jodi played a ton with Ace. I did some fun stuff, too. I found more crabs. I guilted a local kid into not killing a bucket of crabs, walked on the beach a lot and went shopping for groceries at the Wal-Mart & Market Basket. When we were buying beer at the grocery store made stanger laugh by accusing Jodi of lying when she said we could come back to buy more beer later. I said "You're trying to trick me! You just want to leave the store! You don't really care about beer!" For some reason the grocery stores here make me act silly.
Now I have to look into some things to do when our friends come to see us this weekend. Off to more productive internet uses. Ta-Ta
