I have been really trying to ride my bike into work more often. It feels like I really slacked off on the cycle-commuting these last few months. I rode 80 miles this week and it felt like a lot. It felt good but I took today off because I felt my knees could use the rest.
Lately as I ride in to work I have been thinking about all the people I see every time I ride in. There are like 4-5 people I see constantly.
1) Mr. Helmet on the handlebars. - This guy is always riding pretty hard on his way to work. He's hunched over and grinding away but for some reason he isn't wearing a helmet. That in itself isn't weird. Plenty of people ride with a helmet. What is weird is that he does have one. It's just always dangling from the handlebar. I kind of think it might be his childs helmet but then thats even more of a reason to wear one. Set an example, MAN!
2) Asian Lady with Fake Riot Helmet - This woman ride her bike wearing what appears to be a childs "Riot Cop" helmet with a full face, pink tinted clear plastic piece. She rides an older bike and sits very upright. Sometimes I think she is looking at me as I go by but that plastic visor thing make it hard to see her face. I just choose to believe that she is a hardcore weirdo.
3) Gay Dude with Feathers on Helmet - This guy is an older gay man who has brilliantly colored feathers attached to his helmet. It's visually arresting because the feather a big and come off the back of the helmet dramatically. It's definitely a weird look.
4) No Blood For Oil Lady - This Lady has stickers all over her bike and an american flag jutting off from her handlebars. She rides pretty slow. At least slow enough for me to read "No more war" and "Not my president" stickers. The American flag thing also kind of weird. I think it's attached to the bike with zipties. so it's at an awkward angle.
Thats all the people I can remember right now. There used to be a really cute blond lady I used to pass daily on my way to work but I think she stopped riding. She was the only regular person I would see going my way in the morning.
I was considering starting another blog called "How I Hate the Wind" because it is such a big part of my life. Every day it seems that the wind is in my face on the way to work and then switches to be in my face on the way home. Yestreday was an exception. It was like 20 mph gusts on the way to work. Pretty hellacious. But on the way home for once the wind was at my back. I flew home. It was awesome. The wind is a bitch goddess.
