Oh how time flies. Yet again I have neglected hits blog for too long. Whats been happening you ask?
Fathers Day Weekend started with a trip to the Central Park Zoo. It wasn't as insanely crowded as I imagined it would be. The rainforest was an okay exhibit but there was one area that smelled like someone filled a homeless person with horse shit and then exploded them. It was truly awful. In non-smell related zoo news the Polar Bears were pretty cool (and massive).
Before we went to the zoo (we got there a little early) we stopped outside the south side of the park for a little pre-zoo lunch. We got Ace his first (at least in my presence) street cart hot dog. And probably for the first time in 20 odd years I got one, too. While we ate our insanely flavorless hot dogs (seriously they were stupid bland) I noticed that there were rows and rows of caricature artists hanging outside of the zoo. Personally I don't get the urge to sit and waste 30 minutes of your time while someone captures your likeness in cra-pas. I have gotten exactly one caricature done. It was when I was about 16 or so and I got it at Great Adventure (6 Flags) and it sucked. Classically the sun was my eyes. The guy drew what was probably an accurate drawing but I was so like "UGH! That doesn't look like me" that I hated it. I still hung it on my door at home but when I would look at it I would say "fuck that is a shitty drawing of me." In hindsight it was probably a good likeness I just had a different image of myself... as a black man.
Fathers day was nice. We went to the Bronx to my aunt & uncles place in Riverdale. There was a ton of food, drink and fatherly appreciation. We hung out there for a long time shooting the breeze and participating in the ritual basketball shoot around. I hadn't shot a basketball in maybe 2-3 years. Not since I got my back in a better place. It felt good and so did Fathers Day in general.
I have a new unfortunate internet related addiction. Its to handdrawngames.com "Desktop Defense". Its just so stupid and addictive it's dumb. My boss made the mistake of showing it too me a couple of months ago. Its reminiscent of one of those hard ass levels in World or Warcraft (non-MMORPG) where you could try and try and try to build your defenses and you finally lose and then you look up and it's 3am. Then when I thought I might be done he showed me a site with another game that was basically the same thing except with cannons and cool looking junk. I shouldn't be allowed to even type these urls in.
Meeting Sinful Enigma again tonight. Halo player who I have befriended from playing Halo 2 for 2-3 years with the guy. POST ACTION REPORT : Went and got dinner and drinks with Sinful and his gaming (gambling) cohorts. The dinner was mellow. I met them out at Garage which is apparently an old garage that now has dinner and live jazz. The food was NYC average I'd say. Afterwards we headed out to a bunch of different bars. We hit Four Face Liar, that Belgian Ale House on 4th (I drank a beer called Kwak which has a crazy chocolate aftertaste and was really syrupy) then for a quick round at the Fat Black Pussy Cat. FBPC has a crazy back room full of voluminous royal chairs with hand carved wooden accents. Its a really odd vibe but nice compared to the old peanut shells and miller lite vibe in the front room. Sinful and his co-worker Todd invited me to come check out the licensing fair which is why they were in town. It was at the Javitz and
the allure of Swag was too much for me to pass.
The next day I met Sinful around noon at the Javitz and with a little bit of the old lent credentials I was on the floor and amongst the creative licenses of the world. Everything that can be licensed was there. Art, brands, porn icons and more. I quickly snatched up some kung-fu panda fortune cookies. When opened these cookies disappointingly said only promotional things like "Kung Fun Panda Packs a Punch!" which is wack but didn't detract from the crunchy cookie goodness. I also snagged mini Shrek toys, some weird small brand comics, and some sponge bob temporary tattoos. Thanks to Sinful I was given a really gay Faerie calendar and coloring book from a very nice lady who apparently is doing really well with her really really really gay faerie business. I may not be in the market for a poster of a woman dancing with a frog on a mushroom but obviously I am in the minority. The best part of the day was when Todd and Sinful dragged me over to a booth the insisted I had to come check out. It was for a company that licenses classic porn company images. So they took that idea and decided to brand their own energy drinks with the name and images from Deep Throat. So I was introduced to the guys at the table as a big player in the beverage distribution biz. The attention paid to me was really awful. I didn't get a sample can but I did get a taste and the hard sell. It was pretty funny. If anyone is interested the energy drink is a syrup and can be sent to the local canner of your choice. It didn't taste half bad! Also they have clever drinks you can make with it. A Deep Throat and vodka is a Russian Deep Throat. Rum and Deep Throat? Puerto Rican Deep Throat. Etc. Apparently its also very popular in gay bars. I understand why but I would also expect something called "Man Load ENERGY DRINK" or "Jizz Facewash ENERGY DRINK" to be popular there. Okay thats crass but I have gay on the mind thanks to the pride parade footage I saw last night. Always hilarious!
There now you're caught up..... Jerk.
IN OTHER NEWS I ALMOST LOST THIS ENTRY TO THIS STUPID CMS BUT I COPIED THE WHOLE ENTRY RIGHT BEFORE I HIT SAVE. IT SAID I LOGGED IN WITH A BAD PASSWORD EVEN THOUGH I WAS LOGGED IN AND LOGGED IN AGAIN WITH THE SAME ONE. I HATE SERENDIPITY.

Not happening for me
Well, it looks like I didn't make the 2nd round of the Public Radio Quest. Really a downer as one might imagine. I did make the top100 popular voted entries which is nice. I could second guess my entry or the judges choices but thats really pointless I reckon. My only thought is that the original definition of what they wanted was so very vague that my entry was too early. I just went with what I thought they wanted and as the weeks went on the entries got more and more about a show or topic and not just introducing yourself. I predict that some podcaster type will get it. Someone who has been independently producing a show for a while.
Had a crazy weekend. Went out with Kate & Finn on Friday and got some decent mexican at Agave. Saturday drove all over the place shopping. Target, PC Richards & Fairway. The Target at Atlantic Ave Mall is like subjecting yourself to an experience in disappointment, total chaos and savings. The stuff I want is always out of stock, the clothing looks like someone set off a fabric bomb and the lines are insanely long. INSANELY! Then we went to PC Richards which was an experiment in tracking down an disinterested salesman who doesn't want to show you anything inexpensive and when he does he claims its the only one so he doesn't have to waste time comparing 4 cheap models to you. We ended up buying a $150 A/C for Ace's room and I regretted it immediately. But its in the window and it works so whatever. Ace is fond of using the remote to turn it on. Fairway was normal fairway. chaotic but no lines.
Sunday my mom had a cookout on her terrace. Probably the first time she's done that in I don't know how long. We went up there and hung out with her, Joan, Mike and Liz. I brought some bison burgers and italian sausages to the grill. Everything tasted good.

On the way home we were poured on by the remnants of some tropical storm or what-have-you by the name of Bob or Bill or something. We got home pretty quick but I was tasked with parking. Not only did it take me over 90 minutes of cruising around the neighborhood to find a parking spot but it rained like the end of the world. Torrential rivers of water, huge splashy puddles, things blowing all over. By the time I found a place it had died down but it was kind of awful in general. I had to roll down my window to see if parking spots were legal. They never were and I'd be soaked. I did get to listen to almost the entire Red Sox game which was nice.
Then my work week started with my work computer being banned from the school network for Virus activity. Which of course is unlikely since it am on a Mac. I am trying to figure out what could have caused it but so far no leads.
