Officially my HDTV saga has begun. After over a year of talking about buying an HDTV I finally bought one during the Black Friday weekend sales. I was tearing my hair out between just going to Best Buy and buying one or buying one from Tiger Direct. They both had sets at the price point I was looking for. I finally decided on Best Buy because I know my luck with electronics and I wanted a place I could just take the thing back if I hated it or it didn't work. So I loaded up the family, which included a really sick Jodi, and headed to the Long Island City location.
When I got to the store I made a bee line for the TV I had my eye on. It was $500 more than the online price but they price match with their own website so I saved $500. The sales guy tried to sell me an $80 Monster power regulating power strip but was really against my APC betery back up idea. I decided to just do without either until I got my set home and could figure out what kind of power set up I need. So I got it home and set it up. Standard TV looked predictably lame but the xBox looked freaking nice. I went to bed happy as a clam. I woke up on Monday and set Ace up to start watching some Sesame Street. When I turned the set on something went weird. The black turned green and stayed green. I kind of started to panic a little. I had the day off so I did tons of research on the set I finally bought (samsung 40" 4061F) and green screen was not one of the problems. I went to Time Warner got an HDTV set top box. That wasn't the problem. So I went to the HDTV nerd forums and they suggested that I return the set. So I angrily boxed the the set up and headed back to Best Buy. When I got there they made me go talk to the Geek Squad. This led to 15 mins of waiting for them to explain to the people in front of me why they were dumb or broke their products. So when it was my turn I was expecting resistance but the guy was like "Sounds like you need a new TV. Now go stand in the customer service line." So over I went and waited. When I finally got some help I was lucky to see it was the guy who actually sold me the set the day before. He had bad news. That location was out of the set and wouldn't have them for a week. I almost returned the whole thing and said fuck it but I decided that it wasn't worth the aggravation to have to order it from Tiger Direct and wait. Best buy offered to deliver the set for free so I said ok. To add to my distress I had left my house without my wallet so I didn't have my credit cards to do all the credit moving and no drivers license. I was convinced that I would get into an accident on the way home. Luckily I didn't!
Fast forward a week and the new set was delivered this past Weds. After some initial set up confusion I got it working and the HD channels look nice. xBox360 looks great. Standard def channels looks like crap but thats SD for you.
So now for the Sesame Street update. I was asked my a friend to be in...
I JUST LOST 45 MINUTES OF WRITING TO THIS WORTHLESS BLOG WARE BECAUSE ALTHOUGH I WAS ALREADY LOGGED IN WHEN I WENT TO SAVE IT SAID "INVALID PASSWORD" WHICH MAKES NO SENSE SINCE I WAS ALREADY LOGGED IN.
